Hands-on Days

Interactive group field trips for Beginner Farmer Training Program participants

We know that the best place to learn how to farm is in the field. For this reason, Level 1 hands-on days have been designed to augment and bring to life the concepts that trainees learn in their classroom work. These half- to full-day trips are designed to introduce Level 1 trainees to diverse farm operations and practical beginner farmer skills. Trainees can expect to engage in projects such as:

  • Seed-starting and transplanting
  • Building structures for season extension
  • Bed preparation and planting
  • Large harvests
  • Livestock care and tending

Often times, hands-on days correspond with Future Harvest’s Field School events.
