Urban Flower Farming w/ Farm Alliance of Baltimore

May 24 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

This hands-on field day will be hosted by Maya Kosok of Hillen Homestead. Maya will share an overview of small scale flower farming techniques and business tips for small scale producers. Attendees will get a tour of this beautiful flower farm and have the opportunity to see how Hillen Homestead implements sustainable growing methods, including no-till production, no synthetic fertilizers/pesticides, and locally sourced compost for fertility.

Maya will also demonstrate flower harvesting and bouquet arrangement tips. Attendees will have the opportunity to make a mini bouquet to take home.

More about the speaker: Maya has been farming sustainably grown cut flowers in Baltimore since 2012 and currently grows on 2 sites for Baltimore and DC area florists and a flower CSA. She has been an instrumental advocate for urban agriculture in Baltimore, is a founding member of the Farm Alliance and has taught many workshops on Flower farming.

This is an in-person workshop. Pre registration is required so we can plan accordingly. We suggest that attendees wear weather appropriate attire, and closed-toed shoes you don’t mind getting dirty. Be sure to bring a water bottle! There will be extra masks, waters, hand sanitizer, sunscreen & bug spray on site.
