Soil Health to Go! with Deep Roots Farm
November 8 @ 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm ESTFree
Join the Million Acre Challenge for a free, virtual, lunch and learn featuring Gale Livingstone, owner / operator of Deep Roots Farm in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Gale grows vegetables, herbs, fruit, and flowers, and raises chickens on 53 acres. Until she was seven, Farmer Gale lived in Guyana. She then spent many years in Brooklyn, NY. Later, a move to Maryland and a community garden plot lead her to become a student of organic farming, using online learning, reading books and through a brief stint working for another farmer. She is currently in the intense process, with sustainable practices and fundraising efforts, of building infrastructure and rehabilitating land she now owns. Gale believes that the number one priority in regenerative agriculture is soil health, which affects everything from plant health to human well-being and the future of the planet. It also encompasses high standards for animal welfare and worker fairness. The idea is to create farm systems that work in harmony with nature to improve the quality of life for every creature involved On the cusp of its 12th year, the farm’s products are available through farmers markets, home delivery and a CSA-cooperative program fulfilled by Deep Roots and a curated selection of farmers in Prince George’s County.
