Seed Saving for Small Farms
October 8 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm EDT
Join Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, Eco City Farms and Future Harvest for a hands on field day all about growing and saving seeds. The field day will feature a late season tour of the the gardens at Acorn Community Farm, and of the office and storage facilities, and equipment at Southern Exposure Seed Exchange. Experience some hands-on harvesting. Learn to winnow and screen your crops using simple seed-cleaning equipment. Also learn about simple fermentation of seeds that mature inside fruits.
This workshop will include demonstrations of cleaning seeds of snap beans, southern peas, tomatoes, peppers, flowers, luffas, sorghum, molokhia greens, and more. We will also discuss reasons for saving seeds and ways they can fit into the economic picture on a small farm
