Mushroom Cultivation Workshop:

This workshop will provide an engaging primer for low-tech/low-input mushroom cultivation in the garden and home, and it will show folks how to scrumptiously prepare many species of mushrooms using simple cooking methods. We will focus primarily on growing and preparing Oyster, Lion’s Mane, Reishi and Shiitake mushrooms, as well as others.

Participants will learn about the lifecycle and the ecology of fungi, and they will take away the knowledge and the hands-on experience associated with growing several species of delicious, gourmet mushrooms using a variety of forestry and agricultural byproducts. Topics will include: propagating mushrooms in compost, wood chips and sawdust, growing mushrooms on suitable hardwoods and agricultural residues, and selecting mushroom species for seasonal companion planting in the garden with your favorite spring, summer and fall veggies. We will also demonstrate and discuss how several species of fungi can rapidly build organic matter and increase soil fertility while additionally benefiting your plants in the greenhouse and in your garden beds.

Workshop participants will receive two GYO Mushroom Kits, which they will create themselves. We will also sample some of our own gnomegrown cultivated mushrooms and provide our Iced Reishi Immuni-tea Elixir for refreshment.

Seasonal veggies, fruits, herbs and meat will unite with a wide variety of our own farm’s gourmet and therapeutic mushrooms to create a delectable mycophagic menu that is not to be missed! The sunset and vistas are pretty spectacular, too.
