CRAFT at Open Book Farm – Monday 9/12

September 12 @ 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm EDT

Join us this coming Monday the 12th at 3pm for our next CRAFT tour at Open Book Farm!! The Barnets have offered to grill chicken for folks afterwards. If you’d like to join in that, please bring a potluck side to share and be sure to reply over email or comment on our Instagram page so we can get a head count.

Open Book Farm is a diversified livestock and vegetable farm near Middletown, MD, owned and operated by Andrew and MK Barnet. The Barnets raise hogs, beef cattle, laying hens, broilers, and turkeys, all on rotationally grazed pasture. The vegetable operation at Open Book is small, intensive, certified organic, and low to no-till. Among other things that make this CRAFT tour unique are the mobile range coops (basically greenhouses on skids) that the Barnets use to finish their meat birds on pasture, the aerated static pile composting system they have developed for turning brooder bedding into finished compost, and their surface water irrigation system the Barnets have developed in response to very low-yielding wells. Open Book retails their food from an on site farm stand, the Petworth Community Market in DC, through the Common Market in Frederick, and through a Winter CSA program.

Find Open Book Farm at 6600 B ROY SHAFER RD MIDDLETOWN, MD 21769

Stick around after the tour for a low-key potluck. Andrew will be grilling Open Book chicken; please bring a side, drinks, or dessert to share. See you there!
