Broiler Chicken Production & Soil Health Management Plan

September 19 @ 10:00 am - 2:30 pm EDT

$15 – $30
Join Future Harvest and the Million Acre Challenge at Where Pigs Fly Farm for an in-depth field day on the inner mechanics of running a broiler chicken operation and how to institute a robust soil health management plan within this type of system. In the first portion of the workshop, farm owners/operators Jennifer Vaccaro and Brian Knox will share the nuts and bolts of how they raise, process, and sell broiler chickens – sharing tricks of the trade & insights they have gained.
During the second portion of the workshop, they will be accompanied by Lisa Garfield, Million Acre Challenge Director, to walk you through their newly developed soil health management plan.
Over the past few months, Jennifer and Brian have been working with Lisa to create and trial a holistic soil health management plan for their diversified farm operation. This workshop will be the debut of this newly minted plan! If you’re interested in raising broiler chickens AND keeping up a good soil health regime, this is a workshop not to be missed.

Enroll your acres

We encourage participants to enroll their acres in the Million Acre Challenge, a region-wide regenerative agriculture initiative started by Future Harvest and partners. To learn more about the Million Acre Challenge, visit the website here and/or reach out to lisa@futureharvest.org.

About the farm

Where Pigs Fly Farm provides fresh regeneratively grown produce and GMO-free pastured eggs and poultry to families, restaurants and retailers on the Eastern Shore and Annapolis region. We use integrated pest management systems and the rotation of plants and animals to combat pests and diseases holistically.

WPFF is committed to making every day of their animals’ lives happy and fulfilling. Their animals are raised on rotational pasture systems, enjoying fresh air 365 days per year with clean, dry shelter from the elements.

Meal

This event will include a potluck lunch! Future Harvest will provide a main dish. Please bring a dish to share.
