Agro-Ecology Open House & Tour

July 17 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT

Join us for a visit at Middle Creek Farm this summer, the farm that is the hub of SilvoCulture. This diverse and beautiful site is a testing ground for all things perennial and nuts. During your visit enjoy:

⸰ An orchard tour with Eric Joseph Lewis, permaculture designer, teacher, and plant enthusiast

⸰ Exploring a diversity of thriving perennial crops – chestnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, hickories, walnuts, goumis, willows, pawpaws, elderberries, currants, pears, apples, jujubes, and more…

⸰ A walk in the upper fields along the contoured earthwork swales that passively harvest rainwater to nourish the orchard and prevent run-off

⸰ Putting your feet in Middle Creek to cool off and enjoy the peaceful water flowing by

⸰ Seeing approaches to growing young chestnuts from seed in a nursery setting

⸰ Hearing about how SilvoCulture is weaving local nuts back into the regional culture and economy

⸰ Learning about the return on investment for planting a chestnut orchard

Hybrid chestnuts are prolific annual bearers of large quality nuts that bring premium returns on investment. Currently, commercially grown hybrid chestnuts are one of the most profitable crops in the US, living and producing for hundreds of years. Planting a hybrid chestnut now can provide food and economic security for generations to come.

This event is donation based. SilvoCulture is a non-profit and appreciates what you are willing to give. $25 pays for the planting of one chestnut tree. Get your ticket on Eventbrite today!
