Willow Oaks Farm and Cidery Part-time Orchard Assistant

Would you like to be part of a diversified, sustainable endeavor? If so, we invite your interest! We are the longest established certified organic farm in Maryland and the oldest certified orchard on the east coast. We are about an hour west of D.C. and Baltimore situated in the Middletown Valley. We like to grow fruit, beef, flowers, and veggies for the people of our bioregion while remaining caring towards our land and community. We are concerned with sustainable and regenerative practices which foster supportive relationships between people, soil, plants, and animals.

We are looking for 1-2 people to join us this season and invite applicants who would like to stay longer. We are a small farm and therefore ideal candidates will have an interest in tending to all parts of the operation, it would be helpful to have prior on-farm and customer service experience. We are highly diversified and there are many opportunities to grow, discover, and share your thoughts. Responsibilities for our team include the following:

Cidery
Serve customers in on-farm tasting room
Maintain customer facing areas inside and out
Bottle, label, and stock product
Assist with fermentation tasks
Sanitation of fermentation equipment

Markets
Build welcoming displays for product
Extend welcoming ethos to all customers
Safely transport between farm and market
Use of Square point of sale, training provided
Explain products and suggest uses
Remain flexible and diligent in approach

Farm
Seed, transplant and water
Prune, trellis and mulch
Harvest, wash, package and inventory
Mow, weed and apply pest protections around crops
Maintain hoop houses
Use tools, equipment and tractors for farm maintenance
Assist expansion of growing areas and landscaping

Livestock
Collect, wash and pack eggs
Move fences for poultry and cattle
Feed, and water poultry

Season: April – November, most tasks wrap up around Thanksgiving but dates are flexible.
Week: 24-40 hrs flexible, one weekend day would be preferred for shifts in the tasting room.
Pay: 12.50-15/ hr DOE, PTO accrued after 1 year of employment.

Requirements to work with us:

Fully vaccinated against Covid-19
Valid driver’s license
Capacity to complete program for serving alcohol
Capacity to lift 40-50 lbs
Capacity to work independently and in a team setting
Flexibility to move between tasks during the day
