SNAC Garden Foundation is seeking enthusiastic Garden Educators to bring hands-on, earth-based learning to students across our school sites in Sussex County. If you’re passionate about plants, love working with youth, and want to spend your days outside connecting kids to nature and food systems, this role is for you. Spanish Language skills are a plus but not required. Part time and full time positions available.
Garden Educator Duties:
+ Teach garden-based curriculum to students during our spring, summer, and fall programming
+ Maintain garden spaces at your assigned school site(s), keeping beds healthy and learning-ready
+ Build relationships with teachers, students, and school staff to support programming
+ Assist with community events and special programming as needed
The Candidate We’re Looking For:
+ Passion for nature-based education and working with youth. Deep plant knowledge isn’t required, but we’re looking for someone who
genuinely enjoys being outdoors, finds fulfillment in working with plants, and is eager to learn and teach. Comfort working outside in varying
weather conditions is essential.
+ Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm. You’ll work directly with students, teachers, and community members. We need someone who is
naturally outgoing, comfortable engaging with diverse groups, and brings positive energy to learning spaces.
+ Reliability and adaptability. Garden education is dynamic -weather changes, plants surprise us, and classroom plans shift. The ideal candidate is
organized, responsive, and comfortable problem-solving on the fly.
+ Experience working with youth is valued but not required. We prioritize candidates who can engage authentically and have enthusiasm for
sharing knowledge. Strong communication skills and confidence facilitating learning experiences matter more than formal teaching
credentials.
+ Reliable transportation to travel between sites in Sussex County and transport garden materials.
+ Spanish language skills are a plus but not required.
Position Details:
+ Season: April through November
+ Hours: Part-time or full-time options available (15-32 hours/week depending on candidate availability and organizational needs)
+ Compensation: $25/hour
+ Possible Locations: North Georgetown Elementary, Georgetown Middle School, Longneck Elementary, Howard T. Ennis School, Weathered
Eye Farm (Summer community garden program). Locations will be assigned based on skill, interest, and availability.
