The Society of St. Andrew’s Delmarva regional office in Salisbury, MD, has an opening for a full-time program coordinator beginning October 1, 2024 or until filled. Society of St. Andrew (SoSA) is the nation’s oldest and largest gleaning nonprofit, working with farmers, distributors, volunteers, and local hunger agencies to rescue more than 20 million pounds of good food that would otherwise go to waste in the food system. Food goes directly to local agencies for distribution to food-insecure neighbors at no cost to agencies or recipients.

The program coordinator position is responsible for building and nurturing relationships with all stakeholders: farmers, distributors, volunteers, agencies. The PC also attends and runs gleaning events in local fields; picks up and distributes from local farms; and coordinates distribution of large loads of produce to local agencies. The PC also enters information into a computer database; uses a software system to create gleaning events online and invite volunteers; helps update social media accounts; and maintains documents with lists of growers and agencies. Occasionally public speaking with local civic and religious groups is required.
Necessary skills include ability to work independently and as a team; problem-solving skills; basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software; ability to form and maintain strong relationships with a diverse group of people; and flexibility to meet needs of farmers, volunteers, and agencies.
