Job Position: Groundskeeper
Job Description/Responsibilities:
The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and operations of Alto Dale Farm, an estate and working farm in Pikesville, Maryland. This position requires full-time, year-round, all-weather work, on a continuous and on-call basis. The Groundskeeper resides in the farmhouse on the property, a unique benefit of the position. Separately, farmland is available for rent (see Farmland Rental below). Groundskeeper responsibilities include:
● Upkeep of farmhouse, outbuildings, and on-site family homes
● Mowing, trimming, and weeding
● Mulching and leaf removal
● Caring for chickens
● Hauling trash and unwanted debris
● Tool and small engine maintenance
● Snow removal
● Tree care
● Use of environmentally-sustainable practices
● Odd jobs
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is a responsible, self-motivated, hardworking individual, with a proactive attitude who enjoys physical labor in all weather conditions.
● Some experience with small engine equipment
● A positive attitude
● Ability to lift 50 lbs
● Excellent attention to detail
● Some gardening experience

Farmland Rental optional add-on:
On Alto Dale Farm property located in Pikesville, up to 4.5 acres of top-quality farmland adjacent to the Groundskeeper’s house are available for rent to an independent business. As the former footprint of Butterbee Farm, the soil has been amended and cared for using sustainable practices for the last ten years. The new grower will be required to follow the same principles of avoiding synthetic chemical inputs.
The ideal candidates are a couple to take over as Farmer and Groundskeeper together. Although the land was used as a cut flower farm previously, it would also be suitable for vegetables, livestock, herbs, fruit, etc. Available for purchase with the farmland are heated greenhouses, unheated high tunnels, walk in cooler, deer fencing, perennials and shrubs.
This is a prime opportunity for a farmer looking to take on more space, with the following amenities provided:
● Barn for storage of tools, supplies, and products
● Access to 38 HP tractors
● Option to purchase two heated greenhouses, three unheated high tunnels, walk-in cooler, and other infrastructure from the previous grower
● Proximity to Baltimore beltway for easy access to regional markets
● Land security – longer planned farm tenure preferred by landowners
● Some perennials for cut foliage/flowers remaining from previous grower
Land rental fee is very reasonable per acre for a qualified farmer.
